Forklift Maintenance Checklist for Singapore Warehouses (Daily, Weekly, Monthly)
Most forklift breakdowns are not sudden. They are a small fault that nobody wrote down, left to grow for a few weeks.
This is the maintenance checklist we use on customer fleets in Singapore. Print it, put it on a clipboard at the charging bay, and have the operator sign it. That single habit prevents more downtime than any other thing you can do.

Done by the operator, before the first lift of the shift. Under the Workplace Safety and Health Act this is not optional, and the record is what MOM asks for after an incident.

If anything on that list fails, the truck comes out of service until it is fixed. Not "after this pallet". That is the rule that keeps people uninjured and keeps you compliant.
Weekly: The Supervisor Check (15 Minutes)
- Battery water level on lead-acid trucks, every 5 to 10 charge cycles. Top up after charging, with distilled water only.
- Battery terminals and cables for corrosion, heat marks or chafing.
- Chain lubrication. Dry chains stretch and snap. In our humidity they also rust fast.
- Hydraulic oil level with the mast fully lowered.
- Attachment condition if you run side shifts, clamps or fork extensions.
- Review the daily sheets. Two operators reporting the same niggle is a fault, not a complaint.
Monthly and by Hour Meter
Forklifts wear by use, not by the calendar. A truck doing three hours a day and one doing three shifts cannot share a schedule. Use the hour meter to trigger work.

What Forklift Maintenance Actually Costs
Owners usually underestimate this, which is what makes rental look expensive by comparison.
- Scheduled PM visits. Predictable, quotable, and the cheapest money you will spend on the truck.
- Wear parts. Tyres, brakes, chains, forks and filters, all on a rough schedule you can budget for.
- The battery. On an electric truck this is the single most expensive component. Good watering discipline can be the difference between three years and five.
- Unplanned downtime. The one nobody budgets. A truck down for a week means hired replacements, delayed orders and overtime.

Three Mistakes We See Most Often
1. Watering the battery before charging
Charging heats and expands the electrolyte. Top up first and it overflows, which means acid on the floor and lost capacity. Always water after the charge.
2. Opportunity charging a lead-acid battery
Plugging in over lunch feels efficient and quietly shortens battery life. Charge fully, then let it cool. Lithium is the opposite and handles partial charging well, which is why it suits multi-shift work.
3. Keeping the checklist in someone's head
No written log means no warranty claim, no MOM evidence, and no resale premium. A clipboard costs nothing.

Who is allowed to do forklift maintenance in Singapore?
Daily pre-shift checks are the operator's job. Servicing and repairs should be done by a competent technician working to the manufacturer's schedule, with the work recorded.
How often should a forklift be serviced?
Every 200 to 250 running hours for most trucks in single-shift use, and at least every 6 months even for low-hour trucks.
